Changes were made to the continuing education requirements for the renewal of a two-year license. Clarifications based upon the number of required hours in relation to LICENSE EXPIRATION DATE, and your LENGTH OF LICENSURE have been provided by the Maryland Real Estate Commission and are repeated here.
A licensee who has been licensed less than 10 years - Shall complete
at least 15 clock hours of continuing education instruction during the
preceding two-year term, to qualify for renewal of a license.
The 15 hours must include 3.0 Legislative, 1.5 Fair Housing & 3.0 Ethics |
A licensee who has been licensed 10 years or more on the date of
renewal shall complete the following:
If License expires between 10/2/06 and 10/1/08: |
9.0 hours which must include 3.0 Legislative, 1.5 Fair Housing & 3.0 Ethics |
The subject matter approved by the commission shall:
- relate to real estate OR
- relate to a subject matter intended to assist a licensee in providing real estate brokerage services to the public in a more efficient and effective manner, provided that the subject matter is related to helping the public buy or sell real estate.
The 3.0 hours in real estate Ethics must include the Maryland Code of Ethics, and a discussion of the practices of Flipping and Predatory Lending.
A licensee holding a license from another state must complete at least 15-clock hours of continuing education instruction during each 2-year license term and may substitute clock hours of continuing education instruction earned in another state, if those clock hours:
- are approved as real estate continuing education in that state; and
- meet the distribution requirements of Maryland law (see numbered bullet points on subject matter immediately above).
- the commission shall grant the substitution of clock hours only if the other state permits the substitution of clock hours of continuing education instruction approved by the commission for a licensee of this state.
