#3 – Install a Set-Back Thermostat

Much energy is wasted by over-heating or cooling your house during hours of non-occupancy or sleep. A dual set-back thermostat will automatically adjust your heating or cooling system for peak and non-peak times, and will avoid the yo-yo handling of the heating/cooling system. This can usually be done for around $150 by your heating company, saving tons on energy bills, in the long run. Special types of set-back thermostats are required for heat pump installations. Check with your HVAC contractor for details. Thanks to Alan Hoffman at HOUSEMASTER for the tip!

Workforce Housing Certification
Two-Day Seminar Next Thursday & Friday!

Workforce Housing Certification Logo i There has been a bit of confusion about the upcoming WHC two day seminar as to how that relates to the NAR Certified Housing Opportunity Specialist classification that was also available at the last convention. Hope this helps!

The upcoming classes, upon successful completion, will yield a Workforce Housing Certification from MAR. Upon WHC certification you will be listed on the www.MDHomePrograms.com website as a certified REALTOR®.

We now have a FEW SEATS opened up for the January 10-11 Certification seminar. Act quickly! Details and registration here!

The NAR certification is separate, although there are similar classes and requirements, and upon successful completion of the requirements, you are also allowed to apply for the NAR certification (includes a fee).

What the Education Committee is Doing?
Downspout i The committee is still in meetings with the Women’s Council to co-host several events for the upcoming year. We are also talking with WOR WIC CC about a possible "partnership" which would have CAR and WOR WIC work together on CE and other offerings. More to come!

We are also working on the Orientation Day for new agents and agents transferring into the area. The morning session will be conducted by the Women’s Council and the afternoon Code of Ethics CE class will be open to those of you who want to get some credits out of the way early in 2008. Keep an eye on this site for the date and times.

We are getting the 2008 CE schedule in order and have been in touch with several professionals to do CE on the required courses as well as the electives. Home Inspections, Mold and Mildew, Short Sales and Foreclosures, are just a few. Please let us know if there are other subject areas or topics where you would like to see coverage. You can never know too much about this business!
